چکیده

Recent results of forgery detection by implementing biometric signature verification methods are promising. At present, forensic signature verification in daily casework is performed through visual examination by trained forensic handwriting experts, without reliance on computerassisted methods. With this competition on onand offline skilled forgery detection, our objective is to make a first step towards bridging the gap between automated biometric performances and expert-based visual comparisons. We intent to combine realistic forensic casework with automated methods by testing systems on a forensic-like new dataset. The results achieved by the participating systems are promising: 2.85% Equal Error Rate (EER) on the online data and 9.15% on the offline data. From these results we indicate that automated methods might be able to support forensic handwriting experts (FHEs) to formulate the strength of evidence that needs to be reported in court in the future.

Investigation of Off-Line Japanese Signature Verification Using a Pattern Matching

This paper deals with an off-line Japanese signature verification using a pattern matching method. An annoying problem encountered in off-line signature verification using a pattern matching is that variation of signature stroke widths and a registered signature selected from a set of reference samples affect the verification performance. In this paper, we propose a modified pattern matching me...

Off-line Signature Verification Using HMM for Random, Simple and Skilled Forgeries

The problem of signature verification is in theory a pattern recognition task used to discriminate two classes, original and forgery signatures. Even after many efforts in order to develop new verification techniques for static signature verification, the influence of the forgery types has not been extensively studied. This paper reports the contribution to signature verification considering di...

A New On-Line Signature Verification Algorithm Using Variable Length Segmentation and Hidden Markov Models

In this paper, a new on-line handwritten signature verification system using Hidden Markov Model (HMM) is presented. The proposed system segments each signature based on its perceptually important points and then computes for each segment a number of features that are scale and displacement invariant. The resulted sequence is then used for training an HMM to achieve signature verification. Our ...

Evaluation of Local and Global Features for Offline Signature Verification

In this paper we evaluate the impact of two stateof-the-art offline signature verification systems which are based on local and global features, respectively. It is important to take into account the real world needs of Forensic Handwriting Examiners (FHEs). In forensic scenarios, the FHEs have to make decisions not only about forged and genuine signatures but also about disguised signatures, i...

An HMM On-line Signature Verifier Incorporating Signature Trajectories

Authentication of individuals is rapidly becoming an important issue. On-line signature verification is one of the methods that use biometric features. This paper proposes a new HMM algorithm is for on-line signature verification. After preprocessing, input signature is discretized in a polar coordinate system. This particular discretization leads to a simple procedure for assigning initial sta...
